Great article, thank you. And I agree. Scholarship on the topic of hell is woefully underutilized, though there is still very little scholarly work on it at all. What we have are pastors and laypeople writing about hell from their own inherited theological viewpoint and not understanding the rhetoric surrounding the cult of the dead and how important that was. Not to mention conflating all images/terms of hell together and then interpreting *that* as a singular doctrine.
